The negotiations between aeronautical authorities of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Turkey was held from 30 to 31 July, 2009 in Ankara. The delegations were headed by directors of civil aviation administrations of both countries. The meeting was held in a friendly atmosphere with active participation of high level officials of designated airlines of both countries.

According to the Orders of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated July 7, 2009, there have been given international status to "Zakatala" and "Lenkoran" airports. "Zakatala" airport was put into operation on September 19, 2008 and "Lenkoran" airport on October 8, 2008.    

The third Caspian Air Cargo Summit devoted to international air transportation held in Baku on June 9-10, 2009. Representatives from fifty countries of the world took part in the summit. In the Summit the issues on economic crisis's influence, effective use of the fuel and aircraft technologies had been discussed.

  With the Order of President of Republic of Azerbaijan dated on 18 May 2006, June 2 in every year is assigned as professional holiday of the employees of civil aviation in Azerbaijan.

The first aviation group established exactly that day in 1938, laying the foundation for the origin of civil aviation of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The meeting between Director of the State Civil Aviation Administration Mr.Arif Mammadov and Mr. Alan Waddams, Head of the Eurocomission office for Azerbaijan, was held in SCAA on May 21, 2009. Deputies Director and heads of departments took part in this event.

In compliance with minute No8 of the meeting of Intergovernmental Commission on economic corporation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Georgia the representatives of aeronautical authorities of both countries met in Baku on May 7, 2009.

The negotiations between aeronautical authorities of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Arab Republic of Egypt for establishing air services between the capitals of both countries was held in Cairo from 10 to 11 March, 2009. The Azerbaijani delegation was represented by Director of State Civil Aviation Administration (SCAA) Mr. Arif Mammadov, Deputy Director – Mr. Fuad Guliyev and the Chief of Foreign Relation Department – Mr. Eldar Baghirzada.

“Today civil aviation administration of Republic of Azerbaijan abandoned on 90% Soviet aircraft. In the next three years it’s planned to buy 8 aircraft from “The Boeing Company” and, thus, it can be said that we completely abandon the soviet-made technology”, said the Director of State Civil Aviation Administration of Republic of Azerbaijan Arif Mammadov to reporters on Friday, (12 December 2008).

CSJC “Azerbaijan Hava Yollari” signed with the American “The Boeing Company” a contract on 4 August 2008 on purchasing of eight aircraft.
