Meeting of the Director of the State Civil Aviation Agency with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the Republic of Azerbaijan.

On January 24, 2020 a meeting was held between the Director of the State Civil Aviation Agency under the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Arif Mammadov and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. James Sharp. The meeting was held at the request of the British side, sent via diplomatic channels through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

During the meeting, at the request of the other side, the Director gave clarifications on the implementation of “freedoms of the air” regime, announced by “Azerbaijan Airlines” CJSC. They also discussed the issue of further regular operations between countries after United Kingdom leaving the European Union. The Azerbaijani side informed the British side that the flights, as before, will be performed in accordance with the "Agreement between the Government of the Azerbaijan Republic and the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland concerning Air Services", signed on February 23, 1994.

Mr. Arif Mammadov noted that the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr.Ilham Aliyev pays particular attention to the development of air transport and to various activities undertaken in the field. The Director of Agency also informed about the latest achievements in civil aviation of the Republic of Azerbaijan and future plans for its further modernization.

For his part, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. James Sharp, expressing gratitude for the meeting at the Agency, emphasized the issue of coordinating the draft Common Aviation Area Agreement between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the European Union. In this regard, the British side was informed about the Agency's position on this issue.
